Día Internacional contra la homofobia y transfobia

GINEBRA, 17 de mayo de 2013—Hace más de 30 años, los hombres homosexuales encendieron la primera chispa que más tarde desencadenó la expansión de la respuesta mundial a la epidemia de sida. Gracias a la audacia y el valor de las lesbianas, los gays, los bisexuales y los transexuales, hemos experimentado avances extraordinarios en la lucha contra el sida en todo el mundo.

No obstante, el estigma y la discriminación en función de la orientación sexual o la identidad de género todavía son la causa de nuevos casos de infección por el VIH y, además, siguen siendo un obstáculo para los esfuerzos llevados en cabo en materia de tratamiento en cada rincón del mundo.

Deseamos hacer un llamamiento a los líderes políticos y de la comunidad, a fin de que dejen de lado las leyes y las prácticas sociales discriminatorias.

La salud es un derecho de todos. Todas las personas deben tener acceso a la prevención, el tratamiento, la atención y el apoyo relacionados con el VIH.

Hoy, como todos los días, ONUSIDA se suma a la comunidad de lesbianas, gays, bisexuales y transexuales por un mundo sin homofobia ni transfobia.

Trabajemos juntos para conseguir nuestra visión: un mundo en el que se den cero nuevas infecciones por el VIH, cero discriminaciones y cero muertes relacionadas con el sida.

CONCACAF and the United Nations partner in awareness campaign

The Confederation of North, Central America and the Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) and the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 19 April agreeing to work together and engage football in the AIDS response, particularly among young people.

The agreement will be signed during the XXVIII CONCACAF Ordinary Congress in Panama City.

The IACHR, the CIM, UNAIDS and PAHO call on OAS Member States to eradicate stigma and discrimination surrounding HIV in the Americas

December 17, 2012 Washington, D.C. - The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM), the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), call on all Member States of the Organization of American States (OAS) to respect and guarantee the rights of persons living with HIV and to adopt the measures necessary to eradicate all forms of stigma and discrimination against key populations at risk of and all those persons affected by HIV in the Americas.

Experts convened by UN call for citizen security to be included in future development agenda

31 January 2013 - High-level meeting in Panama City to inform World We Want framework

Panama City - More than a hundred thought leaders, UN officials and civil society representatives are meeting over the next two days in Panama City in order to build consensus and provide recommendations on how to ensure citizen security and violence reduction are reflected in the future post-2015 development agenda. The meeting - which is hosted by the Government of Panama with the support of the Government of Finland - is part of a series of consultations among global citizens and experts taking place in 100 countries on 11 different topics in order to create a collective vision of the development agenda as the deadline looms for achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015.
