State of the HIV epidemic in Venezuela
In Venezuela, the epidemic is considered to be concentrated, with prevalence in the general population of less than 1% and greater than 5% in the most-at-risk population groups, particularly in men who have sex with men (MSM).
These estimates are based on document reviews and targeted research carried out by various authors, as to date, far-reaching prevalence studies, while under preparation, have yet to be undertaken. For the 2006 –2011 period, 59,768 new cases were reported.

Brief review on Venezuela
In the year 2000, the 191 Member States of the United Nation signed the UN Millennium Declaration, which establishes eight global goals to be reached by 2015. Three of these MDGs are related to health and seek to reduce child mortality, improve maternal health and combat HIV, malaria and other diseases. As the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) deadline draws near, discussions have begun at global, regional and national level on the new development framework, which should replace the MDGs from 2015 onwards.
